Help Collection: Getting Started with VOLTRA I

Get up and running with VOLTRA I.

  • Quick FAQ

    Product

    Is the cable/battery replaceable?

The cable and battery of VOLTRA I are built to be robust and long-lasting, with a design that allows for easy replacement when they reach the end of their lifespan. Beyond Power will offer standalone replacement kits and extended maintenance services in the near future. Replacements can be performed either by customers or through service channels.

When should I replace the cable?

Replace the cable when its actual condition looks similar to or worse than the 50% reference image in Settings → Safety → Cable Health; stop using it and contact [email protected] for a warranty replacement (or purchase a Cable Replacement Kit if out of warranty).

Does VOLTRA I support metric units?

VOLTRA I can switch between either kg/lbs or m/ft in the Settings menu.

What types of chargers are supported, how long does it take to charge?

VOLTRA I supports up to a 140W charger and Type-C. It takes 2 hours to fully charge with a 65W charger (default) and 1 hour to fully charge with a 100W charger.

What is the expected battery life and how much the selected load will affect that?

Depends on your training! For example, if you use 100lbs throughout a whole session, and one session consists of 12-14 sets, with each set containing 8-10 reps, with approximately 1 minute of rest between each set, then you can expect to train approximately 6 times before the battery fully runs out. However, for trainers who use 60lbs throughout the whole session, VOLTRA I can support up to 14 sessions. To preserve the battery life, please avoid intensive training weights when at low battery.

Can I work out with VOLTRA I while charging?

VOLTRA I will be charged when no particular training mode is selected. We recommend that you charge the product when you are not using it.

Will VOLTRA I require a monthly subscription in order to access its full functionality?

Absolutely not! VOLTRA I can be used entirely without the Beyond+ app, it is a complete training device that requires no subscription to use. To get the best out of VOLTRA I, though, we always recommend our App, Beyond+ (iOS) on the App Store. Why? Two reasons:

First is control and data. By pairing Beyond+ with VOLTRA I, you’ll be able to remote control and monitor training data such as reps/sets/rest time/power/range of motion etc. You’ll also get an awesome summary after each training session. We aim to keep this free.

Second is content. We are to partner with great content producers/coaches to provide the best training content. This will be a standalone subscription with a fairly low cost to cover maintenance and content producers’ expenses.

Do I need WiFi or Bluetooth to connect Beyond+ App?

VOLTRA supports Bluetooth connections to the Beyond+ App for your iPhone. It doesn’t need WiFi access.

How durable is the touch screen and does sweat corrode the screen? Is it easy to wipe and clean?

Sweat usually does not corrode a screen directly. The touch screen can be easily wiped and cleaned, and the edge of the screen is flat and connected to the outer frame, so there will be no trouble in cleaning the edge of the screen. In addition, you can put a screen protector on the screen. For example, a frosted screen protector can cope with sweat better than the original glass.

Is VOLTRA I waterproof and shockproof?

No,VOLTRA I is not water-resistant and should be kept away from liquids. The device is also not shockproof so please place with care.

What are the main features of VOLTRA I?

There are three training modes with VOLTRA I: Weight Training Mode, Resistance Band Mode, and Damper Mode.Under Weight Training Mode, VOLTRA I is capable of performing constant weight training with ultra low inertia, allowing for both eccentric and concentric movements. On top of that, adding eccentric/concentric variation. The Resistance Band Mode takes this a step further by simulating the non-linear force of a resistance band, which increases as the range of motion expands. Lastly, the Damper Mode simulates the resistance experienced during a parachute run, with resistance increasing as speed increases.

How should I choose the right mount to pair with the rack and VOLTRA I?

We offer three mounts for attaching VOLTRA I. The Sliding Rack Mount is our ultimate training companion, as it slides up and down easily. It is compatible with 2×2″, 3×3″, and 4×4″ uprights with hole diameters between 5/8″ and 1″. Additionally, the Adaptive Rack Mount is a smart middle ground option. Simply insert the mount through the 5/8″ or 1″ holes on the rack to quickly set up. Its adaptable nature eliminates the need to worry about specific tubing sizes. Lastly, the Fixed Rack Mount is our economy offering, permanently attaching VOLTRA I to the rack with bolts. It is compatible with hole diameters between 5/8″ and 1″.

Will there be protection or assistance during training?

Yes, VOLTRA I has an assist setting. VOLTRA I adjusts resistance accordingly to assist you in completing the rep when it detects that you are struggling. This automatic mode is designed to prevent injuries and help you achieve your training goals.

Can I adjust the cable’s default extended length?

Yes, you can set your initial cable length by going to [Settings – Cable length – Pull the cable to your desired length – Hold still for about 1.5sec – Complete]

    Subscription?

VOLTRA I is inherently engineered to function autonomously without the need for an app. Although we offer an optional experimental content subscription through our app, all other features unrelated to content are completely free and user-friendly.

    Android App?

While our app is not currently compatible with Android, we are exploring the possibility for future compatibility.

    Safety

If the touch screen goes, can you solely use the app to turn it on/off and adjust the resistance?

Besides LCD touch screen, VOLTRA I has two physical buttons. The left button is On/Off button. If the screen fails, you can do a quick click, followed by a long press, then another quick click, and finish with a long press to force VOLTRA I shutting down completely to ensure absolute safety. In terms of using app control while the LCD fails, as long as VOLTRA I is previously paired with Beyond+ App, you can adjust resistance from the app within bluetooh commuication range. However, we strongly recommend against continuing to use VOLTRA I in such circumstances and advise returning it for repair.

Does VOLTRA I support voice control?

Unfortunately, VOLTRA I does not support voice control because most workout spaces are too noisy for the microphones to accurately capture the precise information.

  • Safety Basics

    Accessory Guard (off by default)

When the machine enters standby mode, training attachments (such as handles or a bar) may drop quickly under gravity, creating a potential safety hazard. When enabled, Accessory Guard helps prevent this—but please note it will increase power consumption.

    Child Protection (off by default)

Child Protection Mode can be toggled on in safety settings to prevent unauthorized use.

    Slip Detection (on by default)

When training with over 30 lbs, if you accidentally loosen the handle or accessories, VOLTRA I proactively slows down cable speed. This prevents the cable from snapping back if you lose your grip on a heavy set. Leave this on unless you have a specific reason to disable it.

    Assist mode (on by default)

When VOLTRA I detects that you’re struggling to complete a rep, it automatically reduces resistance to help you finish safely. Watch this video to learn more.

Think of it as a built-in spotter. Choose a duration for when you want the assist to kick in. Shorter durations (1-2s) provide quicker intervention; longer durations (4-5s) allow more time for grinding through a rep before assistance kicks in.

    Safety Check

Safety first! The optional Direct Load Safety Check ensures your added weight is securely loaded when the cable extends, so you can focus on your workout with peace of mind.

    Cable health

A quick check keeps your training safe.

    How to check:

    1. Go to Settings → Safety → Cable Health

    2. Compare your cable with the 50% reference image

    3. If similar to or worse than 50%: stop using it

*Note: The Cable Health percentage is for reference only. Please rely on the actual condition of the cable and compare it against the 50% reference images.

  • Basic Controls, Navigation, and Safety

    Basic Controls, Navigation, and Safety

Learn how to navigate the touchscreen, adjust resistance, switch modes, and use the built-in safety features.

    The touchscreen

The VOLTRA I touchscreen is your primary control interface. From the home screen, you can select training modes, adjust resistance, configure settings, and view real-time data during sets.

The screen handles gym environments well — sweat doesn’t corrode it, and it wipes clean easily. For extra protection in high-traffic facilities, a frosted screen protector (available separately) handles moisture better than bare glass.

    Adjusting resistance

Two ways to change resistance on the device:

    1. Swipe mode — swipe up or down on the weight display to adjust quickly across the full 5–200 lb range. Recent updates let you toggle between 1, 5, or 10 lb increment steps for faster changes.

    2. +/- buttons — tap for precise 1 lb adjustments.

You can also adjust resistance remotely through the Beyond+ app — particularly useful when VOLTRA I is mounted overhead or in a position where reaching the screen mid-set isn’t practical.

    Selecting a training mode

Modes can be changed directly on the unit’s screen or via the Beyond+ app. From the home screen, tap the mode icon to cycle between the available options:

    • Weight Training

    • Resistance Band

    • Damper (Velocity)

    • Isokinetic

    • Isometric

Advanced modes like Custom Curves are accessible through the app. For a full breakdown of each mode, see the Mastering VOLTRA I Modes & Features section.

    Physical buttons

VOLTRA I has two physical buttons. The left button above the screen controls power on/off. The right button on the handle assists in unmounting.

If the screen ever fails during a session, you can force a complete shutdown:

    1. Quick click once.

    2. Long press.

    3. Quick click once.

    4. Long press.

This sequence powers the device down completely regardless of screen status. If VOLTRA I is previously paired with Beyond+, you can also adjust resistance from the app within Bluetooth range — but Beyond Power strongly recommends returning the unit for repair rather than continuing to use it with a failed screen.

    Cable handling

Always maintain a firm grip on the handle and stand in a stable position during training. A few guidelines:

    • Don’t let the cable retract uncontrolled — use the stop button if needed.

    • VOLTRA I’s ultra-low inertia design provides smooth resistance, reducing jerkiness.

    • At the end of a session, gently retract the cable fully before powering off.

    • Regularly check the cable for signs of fray or wear.

    Built-in safety features

VOLTRA I includes several safety systems that run automatically. Most are on by default and should be left enabled unless you have a specific reason to change them.

    Assist Mode

Active by default. When VOLTRA I detects you’re struggling to complete a rep, it automatically reduces resistance to help you finish safely. Think of it as a built-in spotter.

You can choose a duration for when the assist kicks in. Shorter durations (1–2s) provide quicker intervention; longer durations (4–5s) allow more time for grinding through a rep before assistance kicks in.

Find it under: Settings > Safety > Assist Mode.

    Slip Detection

On by default. When training with over 30 lbs, if you accidentally loosen the handle or accessories, VOLTRA I proactively slows down cable speed. This prevents the cable from snapping back if you lose your grip on a heavy set. Leave this on unless you have a specific reason to disable it.

    Unload Alerts

On by default (Settings > Sound & Vibration). Plays sound and vibration warnings before resistance is unloaded due to inactivity. This warns you before the cable goes slack between sets, so an attached handle or bar doesn’t drop unexpectedly. Worth keeping enabled, especially when using heavier accessories.

    Auto Load

Lets you get into position more easily before your set begins. The cable stays light while you set up, then engages full resistance when you’re ready.

    1. In Weight Training mode, long-press the weight tile.

    2. Pull cable to desired training position and follow the on-screen countdown to stabilize.

    Auto Unload

Drops the resistance either as you reach a holding time target or rep target, so you can finish a set without worrying about returning the cable to the starting point.

    1. Tap the Auto Unload icon in Weight Training.

    2. Turn on Auto Unload.

    3. Set either Holding Time or Target Reps to trigger the unload.

    Sport Mode

Found under Settings > Advanced. Controls maximum weight and cable speed limits. Keep this disabled initially while you learn the system — the factory default caps the weight limit at 100 lbs to protect new users. Enable it later when you’re comfortable and ready for full performance response.

    Child Protection

Can be toggled on in safety settings (Settings > Safety > Child Protection) to prevent unauthorized use. When enabled, a long press is required to unlock the device.

Quick settings to configure before your first workout

Smart Pin — In Weight Training mode, Smart Pin saves up to three frequently used resistance levels for one-tap access between exercises. Tap again to edit saved weights.

Weight Adjustment Mode — Choose between Scroll (swipe to adjust) and Step (+/- buttons) depending on your preference.

Quick Adjust — Set increment size (1 lb, 5 lb, or 10 lb) for how much resistance changes per tap or swipe step.

Resistance Experience — Toggle between Normal and Intense. Intense provides a slightly sharper resistance feel at the start of each rep.

A simple beginner routine to build confidence with VOLTRA I. Start light, learn the feel, and get comfortable with the basics.

    Start light, learn the feel

Your first session should be about understanding how VOLTRA I’s resistance feels, not chasing heavy loads.

If you’ve trained with cable machines before, you’ll notice something immediately: there’s no momentum to exploit. VOLTRA I’s direct drive motor delivers consistent resistance throughout the entire range of motion. You can’t swing, bounce, or use gravity to cheat a rep. Every inch of the movement is loaded.

This means weights that sound light — 20, 30, 40 lbs — will feel more demanding than you expect. Start conservatively. Beyond Power recommends beginning with Weight Training Mode for the most conventional feel.

How to start your first set

    1. From the home screen, select Weight Training mode.

    2. Set your resistance using the on-screen controls (start with 15–30 lbs depending on the movement).

    3. Attach your handle or bar to the carabiner.

    4. Position yourself for your exercise.

    5. Pull the cable to begin — the device will start tracking your set automatically.

    6. After approximately 3 seconds of inactivity, VOLTRA I assumes the set is over and logs it.

    Sample beginner workout

Structure: 2 sets of 8–10 reps per exercise, 60–90 seconds rest between sets.

Seated Row — Mount at mid-height. Sit facing the device with feet braced. Pull the handle toward your torso, squeezing your shoulder blades together. Control the return — the cable should move smoothly back, not snap.

Standing Chest Press — Mount at chest height. Face away from the device. Press the handle forward, extending your arms at chest level. Return slowly.

Bicep Curl — Mount at low position. Stand facing the device. Curl the handle toward your shoulders, keeping elbows stationary. Lower with control.

Pallof Press (Core Stability) — Mount at mid-height. Stand perpendicular to the device. Hold the handle at chest level, press straight out, hold 2 seconds, return. Resist the rotation.

Tricep Pushdown — Mount at high position. Face the device. Press the handle downward, keeping elbows pinned at your sides. Control the return.

    What to notice

Pay attention to how the resistance feels at different points in each rep. With Weight Training Mode’s constant resistance, there’s no “easy” part of the lift where gravity or momentum takes over. The weight stays the same from start to finish.

If you’ve paired the Beyond+ app, check your power and velocity readings between sets. These numbers will become meaningful reference points as you train more.

    Tips for your first session

    • Start lighter than you think. The absence of momentum means even moderate weights feel different from traditional equipment.

    • Focus on controlled reps. The device rewards good form with smooth, consistent resistance.

    • Try a few reps in Resistance Band mode after your main sets to feel how a different resistance profile changes the movement.

    • If something doesn’t feel right, check your mount height. Many exercises feel dramatically different at different cable angles.

    After your workout

    1. Gently retract the cable fully before powering off.

    2. Power down to conserve battery.

    3. Wipe down the handle and screen if needed.

    4. Plug in the charger.
